Messages wait. You don’t.
While you’re in Writing, Slack belongs to Social — so its messages wait in the pen. Switch modes and you get one digest of what actually needs you.
HeyDock reads macOS’s notification records, which needs Full Disk Access, and holds messages from apps in other modes. The pill shows a count on the mode they’re waiting for.
Messages from the people or with the words you choose pop up at once. The default list is “urgent, asap”. Everything else waits.
When you switch, a digest rises over the dock: “While you were in Building · 3 messages held · 1 needs you.” The on-device model picks out the ones that need you.
What you get.
Always let through
VIP names and keywords break through straight away.
One digest
Held messages arrive together when you reach their mode, not one by one.
On-device
The model that picks the urgent ones runs on your Mac.
Set it up.
Settings › Permissions › Full Disk Access
- Click Open Settings… next to Full Disk Access and turn HeyDock on.
- In macOS Notifications, turn banners off for apps you want held.
- Add names and words to Settings › Dock › Always let through.
Good to know
- Full Disk Access is required to read notification records.
- macOS still shows banners unless you turn them off for those apps; HeyDock holds and summarises, it doesn’t intercept the system.
Questions.
Why does it need Full Disk Access?
macOS keeps delivered notifications in a database that only Full Disk Access can read. HeyDock reads it on your Mac and sends nothing anywhere.
Will I miss something urgent?
Messages with your break-through words or from your VIPs pop up at once. The default words are “urgent” and “asap”.
